Most adults should have a dental exam and cleaning about every six months. Some people need three-month visits if they have gum disease, dry mouth, or a high decay rate. Pain is a late signal.

What I check

  • Teeth for decay, cracks, and worn fillings
  • Gums for bleeding, pockets, and tartar
  • Bite, jaw joints, and obvious wear from grinding
  • Soft tissues, including an oral pathology screen
  • Digital X-rays when they will change the plan, not on autopilot

What cleaning actually does

Home brushing cannot remove hardened tartar. We scale it, polish stain, and show you the spots you miss. That is prevention, not a luxury add-on.

What waiting costs

A small filling can become a root canal. Mild gingivitis can become bone loss. Oral lesions that last need a date, not a shrug. MDS training in oral pathology is why I spend time on the soft tissues, not only the teeth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have no pain. Do I still need to come?
A: Yes. Early decay and gum pockets often do not hurt. Pain usually means the problem is already deep.

Q: How long is a routine visit?
A: Plan 30 to 45 minutes for exam and cleaning. First visits can take 45 to 60 minutes.

Q: Do you screen for oral cancer?
A: I examine the lips, tongue, floor of mouth, and soft tissues at checkups. Tell me about ulcers that last more than two weeks.
